Munich Memories

As another weekend approaches and I contemplate where my student budget and limited time will permit me to travel to, I can't help but remember the memories made and sights seen while on my trip to Munich.

Some quick facts. Did you know:

  • Munich used to be a city of monks, which is depicted in the German name itself: München - which literally translates to "of monks
  • Now if there is one thing the monks knew well, it's the art of beer making. Hence the many breweries found in the city of Munich itself. Which also makes it the perfect venue for Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest, for those who have their "blonde moments"...happens in October. And is basically a German festival -  where people from literally all over the world get together and celebrate German beer and drinking ;). Okay thats the simplified version. feel free to read more on the whole thing. Oktoberfest
  • Munich is the capital of the state of Bavaria (South of Germany).
  • Munich is home to the famous Disney inspired fairytale castle: Neuschwanstein Castle  and Linderhof castle.
  • BMW stands for Bavarian Motor Works (Bayerische Motoren Werke)
  • For those who are mild or from-a-distance fans of soccer/football (mbese abafana ba kure b'umupira, nkanjye) #directTranslation. It just sounds better in Kinyarwanda. Sorry my non-speaking kinyarwanda friends.lol.
    • Like I was saying, FC Bayern-Munich is yes, you guessed it, basically FC Bavaria Munich!!!..basic, I know but it sounds so different in English (maybe its just me.lol
.....and much more, ....

Here are some glimpses of Munich.

Best things first...
By far the best part of visitng Munich
The Neuschwanstein castle
Neuschwanstein castle
translated in English: New Swan Stone Castle
There are a lot of Swan-figure-like inspired art and decorations in this castle.
Unfortunately, it is prohibited to take pictures inside the castle

So if you are ever in Germany...you just have to visit this castle...
And all the tales about King Ludwig II, priceless!
He was quite the king, no wonder he built such a castle!

From afar...

From one of the castle windows
Check out that view though...
hmmm!
Perfect!

Up close...

King Ludwig II's mum's castle
On the neighbouring hill.
He wanted his own...so he built the Neuschwanstein castle
So they say..

One more picture of the castle...taken from the bridge(overlook)
because it deserves it!

I also visited one of the other Ludwig castles....Linderhof.
